Binder jetting machine guide

Every setting that lives on a Binder jetting machine - what it is, what it does to a price, and what a typical value looks like. This mirrors the machine editor field for field.

A machine in Quotometry is a real machine in your shop. It carries its own hourly rate, its own build volume and its own speeds, and a part is priced on the machine it would actually run on - not on an average of everything you own.

You can have as many as your plan allows, and several configurations can share them through the Library. If you buy another one of the same model, copy it and change the name.

Every setting on this page

These are in the same order as the editor, with the same help text. Each one has an anchor, and the ? beside a field in your console links straight to it - so if you are reading this because you clicked one, the setting you were looking at is highlighted.

Machine: job box

Printskindbasic

one of 3Default: metal

What the machine prints: metal, sand or full colour.

Price: No direct price effect: a material only runs on machines of its own kind.

Typical: Metal.

Layer thicknesslayer_mm

number (mm)Default: 0.05

The layer thickness the machine builds at.

Price: Divides the fill height into layers; each layer costs a recoat and a print pass.

Typical: 0.03-0.1 mm metal, 0.28-0.4 mm sand, 0.1 mm colour.

Time per layerlayer_sbasiccalibratable

number (s)Default: 20

Recoat and print time for one layer of the job box.

Price: The main machine-time driver: layers × this is the build, shared by everything in the box.

Typical: 10-40 s.

This is one of the numbers the calibration tool can fit from jobs you have already run, so you do not have to guess it.

Keep-out borderborder_margin_mm

number (mm)Default: 10

Powder kept clear of the job box walls.

Price: Shrinks the usable box, so every part's share gets larger.

Typical: 5-20 mm.

Typical fill height (0 = full)fill_height_mm

number (mm)Default: 0

How high a shared job box is usually filled.

Price: Parts taller than this force a taller build and pay the extra height.

Typical: 70-100 % of Z.

Start-up per buildwarmup_min

number (min)Default: 30

Spreading the base layers and bringing the bed to temperature.

Price: Machine time once per build, shared by everything in it.

Typical: 15-60 min.

Typical bound share of a boxpacking_density_pct

percentageDefault: 10

Volume of part in a typical full job box.

Price: Sets how much loose powder a build holds, and therefore how much is lost per build.

Typical: 5-15 %.
